DAY: Saturday 17th January 2009 TIME: doors 7pm, concert 8pm ENTRY: £18 (online!) www.wegottic... The WISE GUYS from Köln - it’s just one success-story after another. The WISE GUYS went from part-time musicians to full-time pretty quickly and are now hugely in demand, playing to audiences throughout the German-speaking world (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and also more recently in German-speaking venues in the US, Canada and the UK). They currently average around 130 concerts a year, some to audiences of up to 20,000 in open-air venues like the Tanzbrunnen in Köln, others in smaller, more intimate settings. Concerts are almost always sold out weeks in advance. In 2005 a total of 150,000 people attended their concerts, a record in itself for an a cappella group. The WISE GUYS make appearances on TV and are regularly played on the radio. And they release a CD of new original songs every one or two years. Their latest album "FREI!" was released in February 2008 and went straight to number 2 in the German album charts. It has stayed in the top 100 for a total of 26 weeks now. "Frei!" is therefore not only the WISE GUYS’ most successful album, but the most successful a cappella album of all times. The WISE GUYS’ appeal is a combination of original songs which are in all styles imaginable (Reggae, Rap, Jazz, HipHop and even Rock and Techno are included), witty and/or thought-provoking lyrics, wholesome good looks and humour, and of course excellent all-round performances. You will rarely go home from a concert without having strained those laughter muscles - the songs make fun of us and our frailties, or better still, of the WISE GUYS themselves. The boys cultivate a very personal feel at each concert by meeting their audiences afterwards in the famous "afterglow", during which, if you’re lucky, they might even sing some more for the dedicated few! THE HALO - winner of the INDY Music Awards 2008 for PRS Bar of the Year Comments ‘From the outside The Halo is just an inconspicuous building on an ordinary Battersea street but an angelic surprise awaits inside. The Venue Simple but absolutely beautiful, The Halo is pure bliss. Spacious with big windows, down-to-earth wooden floors and high ceilings all set to candlelight and stunning artwork in vivid, bold colours. Made for music, The Halo has a discreet raised stage and a striking grand piano to accommodate live acts. Steep your soul in sexy live music performances …. The Atmosphere You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a sanctuary from the rest of the capital when you enter The Halo. Friendly and unassuming, it draws a welcome mix of people. Lounge around on one of the chunky leather sofas and just take it all in or for a bit more intimacy, sneak into the smaller room decked out with funky striped seating. Order your tipple at the sexy island-style bar situated in the middle of the main room and forget the day's stresses and strives. The Last Word Down to earth chic laced with vintage cool, this is one good-looking venue. The Halo is quite simply a place you’ll love to visit and be desperate to tell your friends about.’ (review by ViewLondon www.viewlond...) ‘…this decorative style bar is a poorly kept secret. It doesn’t help that it plays host to all manner of performances on any given night of the week. Spoken word, stand-up, short plays or live music make up the constantly changing programme – there’s even a grand piano set on the stage … The tasteful décor, around an island bar, of candelabra and sculptures, displays local artwork. … A regular boho crowd adds to the relaxed, underground ambience. A boon in often bland Battersea.’ (review by TimeOut London www.timeout....)
