About Spank Rock

SpankRock is an American hip hop group consisting of rapper Naeem Juwan and producer Alex Epton (XXXChange). Their style is generally described as a mix of underground hip hop, party rap and electro. SpankRock began performing in Philadelphia, where their reputation quickly increased. They later toured with Hollertronix and M.I.A.; they also toured with Beck in 2006. You just played the main stage at Bestival, how was it?
It was bloody amazing mate! It was crazy ….the people here are crazy!

So, is this the first time you’ve played to a festival full of bananas, scrabble pieces and pirates?
No, actually no…we do it all the time. There’s a pink ranger over there, a pink power ranger. Elizabeth Taylor as well.

Have you played Bestival before?
No, it’s our first time here.

Will you come back?
Er, I don’t know. It’s up to the powers that be. I would come back. Id wanna see Gregory Isaacs again, he was good.

Did you catch him earlier?
Yeah.

Who else have you seen here?
That’s it. We just got here

Are you hanging around tonight?
Actually I’m djing with Devlin & Darko later in the secret Disco tent in just over three hours.

Have you found where it is yet? I haven’t found where it is yet?
I dunno know where it is. We’re gonna hop in one of those golf carts and have our caddies to take us there and. I’m gonna get nine holes in too while I’m over there.

Which other festivals did you play this summer?
We played Coachella in the states…headlining slot, we played um, er, lots of festivals…lots in Europe, one in Belgium,…we played one in France, we played Pop Montreal…I don’t know, we did a lot of them.

How long are staying in the UK for? Have you got any more shows?
We’ve just been on tour with the Beastie Boys and this is the last date. We played Brixton, played roundhouse and we played Fabric last night, and we stayed up all night, and we came straight here and we’re still up and we’re still drunk!
