About Bono Paul David Hewson (born 10 May 1960), better known as Bono (pronounced Bohn-oh)[1], is the lead singer and occasional rhythm guitarist/harmonicist of the Irish rock band U2. Bono is also known for his humanitarian work in Africa and his efforts in cancelling the debt of poor third world countries. Paul Hewson was raised in Glasnevin (Northside of Dublin) by Iris Rankin Hewson, a Protestant, and Brendan Robert "Bob" Hewson, a Roman Catholic. His mother died on 10 September 1974 of a brain hemorrhage when she collapsed at her father's funeral, when Bono was only fourteen years old. Many so...
