Melissa Arnette Elliott (born July 1, 1971), better known as Missy Elliott, is an American singer, MC, songwriter, and record producer born in Portsmouth, Virginia. Elliott was originally known as Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott. She dropped the "Misdemeanor" from her stage name in 2003, and now simply goes by "Missy Elliott".
